The town of Skalica - a rich history with a winemaking tradition

Skalica is the center of the Skalica wine-growing region, which is the northernmost outcrop of the Malocarpathian wine-growing region. This location at the foot of the White Carpathians is unique in its tradition of growing mainly red varieties, which, thanks to the specific composition of the soil with a higher content of iron and minerals in combination with the southwestern slopes, acquire a characteristic aroma and taste.

Skalický Rubín
Skalický Rubín is exceptional in that it was the first Slovak wine to receive a protected designation of origin within the EU in 2018. This guarantees that the wine was made exclusively from grapes grown in a precisely defined area of the town of Skalica and surrounding municipalities, and is created by blending three varieties: Frankovka modrá, Svätovavrinecké and Modrý Portugal.
